A little weird to get used to, one of those useless apple things if im honest. But my girlfriend stole it from me and she absolutely loves it, says it's the best pen for art on her iPad she's ever used. Now she's addicted to her iPad again. Maybe it's my performance? Works great with my iPad! I had a generic brand Bluetooth tablet pencil, and it did exactly what $25 would get you. Didn't work well for me when I used it with my iPad for college, so I picked up an Apple Pencil on my way home from school one day. Have had no problems since! Holds charge very well, connected seamlessly, it's great! Not sure I would even need to spend the extra money for the “extras” of the newer models, first gen works perfectly great for me!

this is exactly what we needed bec my kid is an artist %26 wants to make sure the pencil has the oressure sensitivity, and some of the alternative brands don't have that.

Worth the extra money

I had purchased one of these in prior years, sold my old iPad and pencil, and recently acquired a new iPad so I decided I needed a new pencil as well. This pencil is perfect for when I take notes for class AND for when I am designing images for my t-shirt business. It stays charged for days and the precision is on point (you see what I did there?)!! Great buy!!!

Love my Apple Pencil!!

Huge difference using the Apple Pencil Gen 1 versus a generic one with my iPad! Works great with Good Notes and Procreate. There are things I can do with the Apple Pencil, such as pressure and tilt, that you can't do with other digital pencils. Love, love, love my Apple Pencil Gen 1!

Love this Apple Pencil

Love it! Easily connected to my iPad, works great with procreate and good notes. Once in a while I do have to reconnect the iPencil cause it disconnects from the iPad. The only problem I had was to see after I purchased the product to see it went on sale for a cheaper price. Why is the 1st generation is still the same price as newer models of the ipencil?

Loved it despite the price

The pencil works fine, but the lack of magnetic charging is a dealbreaker. The last thing I need is one more device that has to be plugged in to charge. I also think it would be easy to lose since it can't be magnetically attached to the iPad. Other than low cost, I'm not sure why anyone would choose this model.

Low price - too many shortcomings

Apple goes out of their way to make compatibility difficult between their Apple Pencils and iPads, all the more frustrating because this is a software limitation designed to maximize how many accessories you need to purchase. Only a masochist would design the compatibility matrix between iPad models, Apple pencils, and their charging accessories.

We have a 4 year old iPad Air -- that uses apple pencil v2, because it has a usb-c charger.
We have a 5 year old iPad with lightning port -- that uses an apple pencil V1. 

...then, we purchase a current (2024) iPad with usb-c? Take a guess which Apple Pencil works with that and how you charge it?

Apple Pencil *v1*, with two adapters (lightning to usbc and usbc-female) so you can charge it and also pair it with the iPad.  Keep in mind this is a software decision by apple, not hardware, and if you contact apple to ask about this they also aren't clear on which Apple Pencils work with which iPads as their compatibility matrix assumes that all usb-c iPads work with pencil v2 which has a usb-c connection.

I assumed the rumbling you hear downtown in Palo Alto was Caltrain. But now I understand. It's Steve Jobs turning in his grave every time someone has to use two adapters back to back with a current rev product to get it to charge.

Apple profiteers at the cost of user experience

Item does work! I'm just constantly scared about it dying before I realize it's low on battery. After I purchased the item I have seen so many videos about people saying if you let it die it won't charge again!! What's the point!? A very expensive pencil for this problem!
